Join us for three hours filled with networking with local women leaders, motivation & inspiration, as well as a strong panel of influential leaders with years of leadership knowledge to share; Lead Up for Women welcomes Audrey Monell, Janice Jackson, Vanessa Siren, Deborah Bateman and special guest Ashley Austin to share their experience in business and teach how success is possible for all women!
Ashley Austin is the Marketing Manager for the Phoenix Suns. She oversees their media buying and planning and manages their agency relationship. Austin oversees all advertising activities including out of home, television, radio, print, digital marketing, and social media. In addition, she develops and leads event strategies and organizational multi-cultural initiatives. Prior to her position at the Phoenix Suns she was a Media Supervisor at one of the most renowned agencies in the country, Starcom Mediavest Group. At Starcom she worked on household brand names like Wrigley, Mars, and Heineken. With her time at Monster.com Austin also developed her vast knowledge in the digital realm as an Ad Operations Media Program Manager. There she executed, optimized, and managed multiple media campaigns. She has also worked at the African American television network TV One to help foster multicultural experiences and completed her Masters of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communication at Roosevelt University. Austin is also a member of the Association of National Advertisers and loves to give back to her community through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and the Off the Field Players Wives Association. With over a decade of experience in advertising and marketing it’s no wonder she has been dubbed a “Media Maven”.
Audrey Monell is the President of Forrest Anderson Plumbing and Air Conditioning Inc. (Forrest Anderson). Though she has held that position for more than 8 years, she has been dedicated to Forrest Anderson her entire life. Her grandfather, Forrest Anderson, founded the phoenix-area company in 1961 and she continues to uphold the same high ethical standards and practices he set in place, three generations later. Monell worked to put herself through college as a waitress, veterinarian hospital receptionist, in-home caregiver, and even worked on a watermelon farm. She graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. of Economics in 2008. Audrey has helped lead the company to being named one of the Phoenix Business Journal’s Top 25 Mechanical Contractors for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017, and was recently named a 2019 Outstanding Woman in Business. Monell often speaks to young women about the opportunities for a good career in the plumbing/HVAC industry and also serves as the Vice President/President Elect for Executive Women’s International Phoenix Chapter.
Deborah Bateman, Vice Chairman at National Bank of Arizona, epitomizes achievement, determination and kindness, professionally and personally. Her career has seen her rise from bank teller to executive while never losing the grounded perspective and touch that makes her a valued friend and mentor. Committed to developing others and helping them reach their personal and professional goals, Deborah speaks from the heart when relating her own life experiences to those who value her counsel.
Her diverse career has spanned five decades, and includes both entrepreneurial and corporate leadership roles. In addition to serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for National Bank of Arizona, Deborah is a professional and certified Executive and Personal Branding Coach, a best-selling author, and a frequent speaker at seminars, meetings, and conferences.
Deborah has always been actively engaged in our community, where she has served on more than thirty nonprofit and advisory boards. Currently, she serves on boards for the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute, The American Heart Association, The Arizona Historical Society, Mesa Community College and The Foundation for Living Medicine.
Deborah’s professional commitment and involvement in the community has garnered numerous recognition and awards, such as; Stevie Award – Best Financial Services Executive, YWCA Corporate Business Leader Award, National Association Of Women Business Owners – Visionary Award, Girl Scouts Of America – Women Of Distinction and Leadership Award, Mesa Community College Hall of Fame, Phoenix Business Journal’s – Most Admired Leaders, Cancer Support Community Arizona – Hope Award, AzBusiness Magazine – Most Influential Women In Arizona Business, The Phoenix Chamber of Commerce – Athena Award Finalist, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – Bronze Sierra Award.
Deborah is a Hall of Fame Alumni and Graduate of Mesa Community College, and a graduate of the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.
Janice joined Plexus® in March 2018 as President of Sales and Marketing. She oversees the marketing department, sales organization, product R&D and product management, and the customer service department. Janice has built an exceptional career as a successful executive in the direct selling and consumer products industry, from VP of Global Brands at Amway to Executive Director of AstraZeneca, SVP and CMO at JAFRA Cosmetics International, Chief Brand Officer at ViSalus, and CMO at WorldVentures. Janice’s prestigious expertise ranges from global product development, global brand marketing, corporate affairs, consumer insights, and more.
Plexus’ excellent reputation within the direct selling industry was a huge attraction in her desire to join the leadership team. She fully embodies the company’s ‘One Plexus’ culture of servant leadership, meaning that the company leadership builds the interests of those in the field, as well as the company, into every decision they make. An inspiring and dynamic leader, Janice has a passion for developing talented teams who strive for excellence. She is notably skilled in building relationships across boundaries in order to drive growth and support strategy, while leading her teams to exceed deliverables, winning awards along the way.
Janice holds a bachelor’s degree in European Languages and Business from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland and is fluent in both German and French. Janice is married and has two daughters. The entire family is devoted to animals, including their cats and dog, and have donated funds and volunteered to support orangutans in Malaysia, elephants in Thailand, and chimpanzees in Zambia.
Vanessa Siren is a Brazilian born Yoga instructor, who lives in Gilbert with her husband and 5 children. She is passionate about fitness and likes to bring some “spice” to her classes, making them fun and entertaining. She teaches around 15-18 classes a week and credits her personal approach to keep her students coming back. She is also a long time model, represented by Ford in Arizona and a few other agencies around the world. She credits yoga to keep everything in “balance” even when things aren’t!
